Giving Back: Seattle Works Day 2017

On Saturday, June 17, OCI team members participated in Seattle Works Day, a volunteer event to serve the City of Seattle community. Over 1,000 volunteers participate in this annual day of service, at over 50 nonprofit partner locations throughout the City. OCI’s team faced the challenge of weeding and spreading new mulch around the teen center at Steve Cox Memorial Park. As you can tell from the before photos below, the garden beds were in definite need of a good pruning when OCI and King County Parks volunteer coordinators arrived.

With the challenge laid out in front of them, OCI team members dove head-first into the weeds and before long had the teen center looking fresh! They moved over 10 cubic yards of mulch and pulled a whole lot of horsetail weeds and other invasive shrubberies.

In true OCI fashion, team members couldn’t resist having a great time while serving the Seattle community! Seattle Works Day is an annual event, visit their website to learn how you can participate: https://www.seattleworks.org/swd
