OCI is designing a new 1.3 acre park in the North Rainier neighborhood of Seattle to provide critical open space near a commercial corridor, several multi-family developments, including senior and low-income housing, and single-family homes. OCI has led a robust public involvement process, including outreach in eight languages to maximize involvement in public meetings at community events, stakeholder meetings, and survey responses. The overall response has been highly positive for this new, much-needed park.
The proposed park amenities are designed to be universally accessible, complement the character of the neighborhood, and encourage positive activity. To increase year-round activation, the park will feature a multipurpose lawn, a gateway garden, three-point basketball court, adult exercise equipment, and a play area for toddlers and older children. Seating, picnic tables, and barbecues are a high priority for the local residents to provide social gathering spaces and host community events. Street improvements, including sidewalk, planting strip with street trees, curb and gutter, and safe crosswalks will be added on the three surrounding unimproved streets.
