Rainier Avenue South is often considered the “main street” for adjacent business districts and residential neighborhoods; however, it is also one of the least safe roadways in Seattle for pedestrians. Working with Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development, Osborn Consulting, Inc. (OCI) team members developed a conceptual plan that re-imagines a one-mile segment of Rainier Ave South as a new gateway into the Rainier Beach Neighborhood. The concept illustrates examples of different configurations for separated bicycle facilities and intersection improvements that prioritize the safety of people walking and biking.
