Whatcom County’s Silver Beach Creek Water Quality Improvements Project in Lake Whatcom Watershed has won the 2011-2012 Honor Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Seattle Section. Furthermore, the project has also been selected as the 2012 Environmental Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Washington State Chapter.
The project improvements included the construction of treatment swales, stream bank stabilization, piping systems, catch basins, and installation of treatment vaults. These improvements were designed to substantially improve water quality and reduce flooding between Brownsville Drive and East 16th Place. OCI was the Lead Hydraulic Engineer on the project and provided hydraulic and hydrologic analysis. This project was partially funded by a federal EPA grant.
