Today is National Marketing Day! The Marketing Department at Osborn plays a pivotal role in promoting Osborn’s mission, vision, and Core Values, managing internal communications, social media, presentations, business development, project pursuits, and more.
We spoke with our Director of Marketing & Sales, Madison Pearson; Pursuit Strategist, Melissa Newton; Marketing Manager, Kelsey Tylor; Internal Communications Manager, Wesley Riddle; Communications Coordinator, Kasey Iranon; and our Marketing Coordinators, Jill Schultz and Lauren Finnegan.
We hope you enjoy learning more about the passionate people who power our marketing department!
What inspired you to pursue a career in marketing/communications?
Wes: I would say I fell into it, but that’s not quite true. I followed my passion for writing and editing, and it led me down this winding path to Osborn. And what a fun hike it’s been!
Melissa: I’ve always loved the power of clear communication and the role it plays in bringing people and ideas together. Today, I channel that passion into helping teams craft compelling messaging, strengthen client relationships, and position themselves to win meaningful work.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Madison: The talented, passionate people that make me laugh along the way. And the thrill of a pursuit win!
Jill: Variety! Being able to transition from proposal development to a marketing project and event support keeps me engaged and allows me to utilize a variety of skills.
Kasey: Getting to tell the story behind Osborn’s inspiring projects, and all the collaboration and teamwork that goes into it.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Wes: Checking Outlook more times than I’d like to admit. Most days are a mix of building comms plans, collaborating on messaging, and trying (often failing) to answer Leland’s “Fish Trivia” question of the day.
Lauren: From working on materials for both prime and sub pursuits to drafting various graphics and pieces of writing for both internal and external use, I enjoy the fact that almost every day looks different from the previous one.
What do you find most challenging in your role?
Lauren: Keeping a mental library of Osborn’s experience is tough—especially when it’s so extensive!
Kelsey: Aligning and scaling marketing resources as Osborn grows. It takes a bit of prioritizing and being flexible to find what works best for our teams.
What Osborn Core Values do you feel are most relevant to your day-t0-day activities?
Madison: Relationships and Trust. Both internally and externally, everything the marketing team does hinges on that core value.
Kelsey: Growth and Exploration. A personal core value of mine is adventure, so I love that I get to lean into that by exploring and testing marketing tools or workflows daily.
Jill: Collaboration and Creativity. I really enjoy understanding what my coworkers’ needs are and who the audience is so I can translate that into informative, creative, and engaging material.
What part of your role do you feel most contributes to Osborn’s overall mission?
Melissa: Connecting people, ideas, and opportunities—building relationships, strategies, and solutions that help our clients succeed and strengthen our reputation as trusted partners.
Kasey: Osborn does such incredible work – but doing the work is only a piece of the puzzle if the audiences we care about don’t hear about it! Communications plays an integral part in helping bring Osborn into new spaces and attracting new work.
