Bothell Main Street

Osborn Consulting landscape architects, the City of Bothell, and the local business community undertook a design visioning process to revitalize Bothell’s Historic Downtown Main Street. We led the urban design effort by re-imagining Main Street as a pedestrian-focused festival street. The road was raised 6 inches, making it flush with the sidewalk for better pedestrian access while simultaneously solving some of the drainage issues that have plagued Main Street for years. A key design feature of the streetscape is the “flex parking” concept employed in the core area. During the rainy winter, all on-street parallel parking stalls are open for car parking providing ease of access to the businesses. During the sunny summer, removable bollards are placed along the edge of the parking stalls to restrict parking and open the space for outdoor seating. This creative seasonal approach makes the most out of the street, and encourages pedestrian activity, thereby leading to more patronage of the local businesses.
