2023 Scholarship Winners

For the third year in a row, Osborn Consulting is excited to award scholarships in partnership with Renton Regional Community Foundation to support BIPOC engineering and/or landscape architecture students!

The Osborn Consulting Scholarship was founded to support ambitious BIPOC students with demonstrated a financial need, who were or will be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at accredited programs in landscape architecture or civil engineering. We focused on identifying students with a demonstrated commitment to developing public infrastructure and/or public spaces in the state of Washington.

After reviewing many qualified and outstanding applicants, we are excited to share that two deserving students have been selected to receive 2023 Osborn Consulting Scholarships!

One of our winners, Cesar Beldolla-Hurtado, just graduated with his bachelor’s degree and will be attending Washington State University in the fall in pursuit of his master’s degree. This is Cesar’s third year receiving the Osborn Consulting scholarship and we’ve been thrilled to have such an impact on his educational journey.

In his application, Cesar wrote that “tangible projects that change the lives of communities and possibly even my own neighbors are what I truly want to accomplish throughout my career…  I truly believe the Pacific Northwest has the best sense of community and the best offerings in the country, and I aim to keep it that way. I have a desire in becoming a go-to person in the construction and engineering industry, especially in the mass-timber sector as it continues to be developed and become widespread in the next decade. I also see it as taking responsibility for making sure the integrity and character of local communities are maintained and ensuring communities are benefiting from projects I am involved in as the Pacific Northwest continues to grow.”

Cesar is currently working towards his PE license as well as a M.S in Structural Engineering at Washington State University, with hopes to run his own engineering company in the future.

Miguel Gonzalez-Montijo is our second scholarship winner and he is currently working towards his PhD in structural engineering at the University of Washington.

Miguel has a deep appreciation for the earth and a willingness to learn new ways to build safer structures that add to his community. He also has a desire to teach, stating in his application that his mission is to “help raise future generations of engineers, be it in academia or industry; teaching them to approach problems with a community-minded perspective as well as to engage more in human-centered designs. With more scientists and engineers able to reach out with a strong yet empathetic and understanding voice, we will be able to better inform the public, establishing important ties between scientists and vulnerable communities.”

After completing his PhD, Miguel hopes to give back to his community and those surrounding it as well.

Congratulations to both of our 2023 scholarship winners! It is inspiring to hear their stories and goals! We wish all the best to our recipients, and we look forward to seeing what these two talented individuals accomplish in the future.
