Lauren is a landscape architect, advocate for native landscapes in urban environments, and specialist in children’s outdoor spaces. Lauren grew up in Iowa and has a passion for native landscapes, especially those of the western mountains, southwest deserts, and northwest forests. Her design work seeks to bring the awe of these landscapes to urban sites, with a special focus on creating spaces for children to learn and play.
Lauren has volunteered with the ASLA Children’s Outdoor Environments PPN, written for ASLA’s The Field blog, and designed for Green Schoolyards America’s National COVID-19 Outdoor Learning Initiative.

As Principal Emerita of Osborn Consulting’s Landscape Architecture and Urban Design Group (formerly Cascade Design Collaborative), she applies her expertise to projects of all scales, from schools, streetscapes, and bioretention cells to campus master plans. Kas is dedicated to enhancing public spaces, including stormwater infrastructure and educational settings, and actively engages with communities to address their needs and budgets. She is renowned for her work in sustainable design, public infrastructure, and advocating outdoor learning in schools. Kas’s contributions extend to her involvement with the State of Washington OSPI technical advisory committee and the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE).

Having originally built a career in interior design back home in Mumbai where she worked on luxury residential and retail design projects, an interest in designing both indoor and outdoor spaces was what led Gauri to take a deep dive into the field of landscape architecture.

Her background in interior design helps her both to explore and apply her knowledge of materiality, textures, and colors in her designs. Gauri has a keen interest in how designs affect human behavior and looks to explore this throughout her journey into landscape design. Gauri loves using different software to explore how design can be easily expressed.
