Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) Study

The Osborn team provided systematic sampling of the SeaTac International Airport (STIA) sanitary sewer wastewater at key locations to identify BOD sources and understand the possible causes for the high levels of BOD. Field sampling involved accessing manhole locations within the Air Operations Area (AOA) and on the ramp areas, requiring direct coordination with Port staff, and completing the sampling within a four-hour window. Following a documented chain of custody, OCI delivered samples to a third-party lab where they were tested for BOD, glycol, and fats, oils, and grease. The lab results, analysis, and recommendations from each testing event were documented in an annual report.
