Silver Beach Creek PS&E

Osborn Consulting supported Whatcom County with modeling and design on a significant flood control and water quality project in the Silver Beach Creek Basin. Although the stream was classified as “fish bearing,” the project site was located above Whatcom Falls, a natural fish barrier, meaning the habitat value was limited to resident trout species. The goal of the project was to provide fish habitat, bank stabilization, and phosphorous treatment within the West Tributary. The project required basin modeling of an existing 40-acre mixed-use basin that included dispersion of internal sub-basins. OCI designed a bioinfiltration facility for basic and phosphorous treatment prior to discharging into the West Tributary and eventually into the phosphorous-sensitive Lake Whatcom.
